Maybe sometimes its a power/control thing. "why do you do that?" - "because I can"

sorry, a very depressing topic, but it goes on all the time.
i watched a special last night called escaped....it was true stories about people who were kidnapped, tortured, endured and escaped.
a one on one or two scenerio.

are you really thinking for yourself when you quote scriptures all the time as your personal answer?.
i bring this up for two reasons: first and foremost, it became almost a game in jw land, a competition to see who had the better (wt approved) passage when something came up.. almost always of course, if it was "of this world", well, we know the nwt in particular is full of how bad "the world" is.
can't be part of "this world") its bad!.
LOL @ reniaa and Josie's replies!
Jeff I think I get what you were getting at in your OP. I sometimes find it irritating too.
A person's own words and actions should speak for themselves, not always needing a scripture as backup - that can sometimes tip into an air of self-righteousness or perceived superiority over others - and thus achieves nothing.
"preach the Gospel wherever you go - use words if necessary." Francis of Assisi
I wish we could have a big annual celebration like that over here. I think the British forgot the art of celebrating a long time ago!

when my daughter was little we were "active" -- one time she asked to say the prayer at dinner.
we said ok. she said a nice little prayer and ended it by adding "and thank you for the beer, the wine and the champagne.".
another time coming home from a meeting she looked up at the sliver of the moon and said "that looks like a giant toenail".. .
A relative of mine aged around 6 years old had been christmas shopping and we asked what she'd bought for various people.
She innocently announced that she'd bought some marbles for her gran "because she's lost hers"!
The marbles were for said gran's solitaire game, the poor child just hadn't realised that losing one's marbles has an alternative meaning lol!
personally, i love music.
i typically will see r&b/dance bands on a weekend.
i'm not a homebody.
Getting at least one day off work

our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
it is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
Matthew 18: 1-4
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Children have no fear, they just get on and try it! Oh to be childlike once more!
so the uk is divided into 4 separate countries - the big bit called england that has wales on the side and scotland at the top with northern ireland off on its own island.. each country has multiple cultural identities.
broadly speaking (and i generalize) the wealth of england (and the uk generally) is concentrated in london, the 'rust belt' is in the middle namely birmingham and manchester and the north of england tends to be poorer.. scotland - where i'm from - is culturally rich but economically poor.
there is a long-standing argument about how wealthy scotland could have been if it had been able to keep all the north sea oil revenue instead of sending it to london.
